Used car owners' natural driving defence

28/08/2008
Motorists in new and used cars have a natural defensive mechanism against driver fatigue - blinking.

According to GEM Motoring Assist, human beings blink more when bored or tired, meaning that any more than the average of ten per minute can act as an indication that motorists are too fatigued to continue.

David Williams, chief executive of the breakdown firm, commented that this is a great way in which people can discover naturally that they are losing concentration behind the wheel.

"It is a built-in early warning system that gives us the opportunity to head for the nearest motorway service area or other refuge from the road before our driving becomes erratic and potentially dangerous," he said.

This comes as the organisation recently scored highly in a survey conducted by Auto Express, in which it came ahead of Green Flag, the AA and the RAC.
