New cars news: VW Scirocco awarded for style and value

The Volkswagen (VW) Scirocco has been recognised as Sporting Car of the Year at a recent awards ceremony north of the border.

The Scottish Car of the Year Awards, judged by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW), said the Scirocco was commended for its combination of ability, style and value for money.

It could also be good news for those shopping around for a used VW.

Chris Craft, director of Volkswagen UK, said: "This is a tremendous honour and a particularly special one, being the first award the new Scirocco has won since its launch in September."

Other winners at the bash included the Jaguar XF, which was named as Best Luxury Car and Best Diesel.

ASMW president Bill Caven said the entire judging panel was "mesmerised" by the features of the vehicle.

The all-new Ford Fiesta won the overall title of Scottish Car of the Year and the Ford Kuga won the sports utility vehicle category.
