Car loans customers urged to check tyres

22/07/2008
People looking to take out car loans may want to consider checking their tyres as summer begins this year.

According to TyreSafe, there are three areas drivers should check before they set off: air pressure, tread depth and condition of tyres and wheels.

The company has urged people, whether they are driving new cars or used cars, to conform to a vehicle's correct tyre pressure, as outlined in the manufacturer's manual.

In addition, they should remove foreign objects and stones from the tread and make sure that it has a minimum depth of 1.6mm - the legal requirement for wheels.

"Motorists preferring to have their tyres checked professionally can take their vehicle to any reputable tyre retailer, who will be able to provide tyre safety advice and information," commented the company.

TyreSafe is a not-for-profit organisation which was set up 16 years ago and previously went by the name of the Tyre Industry Council.
