Used car insurance customers 'should shop around for best deal'

31/07/2008
People who are looking to cut back on their spending during the credit crunch may wish to shop around to see if they can find a better deal on insurance for their used car, the head of insurance at moneysupermarket.com has suggested.

Peter Gerrard said that while cutting out motor insurance to save money is not an option, there are a number of ways in which consumers may be able to save.

He pointed out that there is "much more competition" in the motor insurance sector than there used to be and that many providers are now offering deals and discounts such as cashback offers and lower premiums.

And while moneysupermarket.com has anticipated that car insurers may increase their prices by up to ten per cent this year, Mr Gerrard added that deals and discounts may result in less of an impact for car insurance customers.

Some six million people are thought to have changed their car insurance provider during the past six months as a result of rising prices.
